Consider for such an increase of suspected cases over the weekend, CCISD officials decision to shut down all district schools wasn't easy, district officials said they had to take action.
"I'm announcing today that all classes and activities in the Corpus Christi ISD campuses will be suspended beginning tomorrow, Tuesday May 5th to at least Wednesday, May 13th," CCISD Superintendent Scott Eliff said.
"Additionally, the health department has informed us this morning that the probable case that led to the closing of Miller High School earlier this week has now been confirmed as H1N1," Eliff said.
All extracurricular activities related to the school are also canceled until Wednesday, May 13. Also, CCISD's Administrative Building will also be closed at that time.
"Parents and caregivers should be using this time to make arrangements for school to not be in session through May the 13th," Eliff said.
The district said it plans to disinfect every school by cleaning all doorknobs, desks and areas students come into close contact with every day. Until school starts back, officials are urging kids to play it safe.
"These days off are not the time for students to congregate at the mall. The whole purpose of suspending school and school activities is to stop the potential spread of this disease," Eliff stated.
One exception to the shutdown is Collegiate High School, which is on the Del Mar College Campus. They'll continue classes as usual unless instructed otherwise. In addition, dozens of end of the year banquets are having to be reorganized. Superintendent Eliff said at least one prom is in the process of being rescheduled but he didn't say which one.
