Before the Air Jordan I, the Nike Dunk was worn off and on the court. Around 1985 the first pair of Nike Dunks were made available, with a variety of different color ways. Finding a color scheme to match your team colors was not a problem. During the 1985 NCAA Basketball Tournaments during the 1985-86 season you would see teams wearing Nike Dunks like Michigan, Syracuse, Maryland, UNLV and Arizona. buy it here: http://dunk.123netshopping.com/

Today is the one-year anniversary…

During the '07 Playoffs, As I read through a couple of posts and scrolled through a game thread on "Golden State of Mind," my craving for a Jazz site like GSoM increased, second by second.

Before SLC Dunk, there were maybe only one or two places to go for Jazz discussion. Without naming names, these sites were places where intelligence and rational thinking were avoided like the plague, and every opinion-based post is barraged with "Your an idiot, and you’re mother’s an idiot" responses. I’m not sure which is worse—reading a site filled with other teams’ trolls, or reading a site filled with your own team's trolls.

Anyway, this site and its smart, funny, non-trolly members have been a godsend to me, and I’m sorry if I’m personally responsible for such a high percentage of the allotted bandwidth usage, if indeed there is a limit.

Nike Dunk SB Low 720 Degrees Dark Charcoal / Bright Pink

Wednesday, May 6, 2009

There was another skateboarding game that dates back over two decades, 720 Degrees, before the days of Tony Hawk’s signature video game series.

Atari’s iconic video game is brought back to life in the form of Nike SB’s Dunk Low, known as the Nike Dunk SB Low 720 Degrees and was first sold in May 2008.

The sneaker consists of a multicolored palette made up of dark charcoal with a pink swoosh, orange laces, and a checkerboard inner lining taken from the artwork of 720 Degrees.

The Dunk Low also incorporated a light blue collar and yellow accents inspired by 720 Degrees as well, the 720 Degrees Dunk SB Low is long gone from store shelves.

Nike Dunk SB shoes

2002, Nike took their brand in another line, and that would be Skateboarding. So what would make the line sell? Other skaters disliked this idea because they did not want a corporate company to take over their sport.

The Nike Dunk SB Low and Nike Dunk SB Highs, but with all the hype of the shoe, plus stores “wanting” more money, prices have been upped to anywere sometimes more.

The Nike SB line rode on the back of the dunk. At first the line had plain colors, like the Lodens, Gino 1, Paul Brown Highs, and wheat lows, but with a zoom air insole, stuff tongue and extra padding, that alone sold well.

Some what collectors call “Holy Grails” are Heineken, Supreme Low and High, Calis, Supas, Chocolate, Zoo Yorks and Paris. Resell value.

Only certain stores with a Nike SB account can get Nike Dunk SBs or any Nike SB. Rules were you had to be an established Skateboarding store for 2 years before Nike SB would consider making a contract with you. Plus something to sell Nike SBs in your store.

would have to be the Ebay Dunk. Inspired by the Ebay logo, Nike made a sample pair to take pictures of, and threw them on ebay to see how they would sell. The pair went for over $30,000 and was made for the individual (who was kept anonymous) in his/her size. The original pair was cut up in 4 pieces and is on display.

The Nike SB line rode on the back of the Nike dunk. At first the line had plain colors, like the Lodens, Gino 1, Paul Brown Highs, and wheat lows, but with a zoom air insole, stuff tongue and extra padding, that alone sold well.

People will do anything to get their hands on a rare pair of Dunk SBs. For example around 200 pairs of the Nike Dunk SB Pigeons released in New York only on February 2005 close to 100 people camped out for this pair, and on release day about 20 pairs were sold. Riots broke out, and the police had to come in full force. Other skaters disliked this idea because they did not want a corporate company to take over their sport. So what would make the line sell? They went for, but now they go for a easy.In 2002 Nike took their brand in another line, and that would be Skateboarding.

MDOT's 2009 statewide construction map now available Edit

The free guide, called "Paving the Way," is updated each year to help motorists locate major road and bridge projects across the state. The annual state highway construction map is now available from the Michigan Department of Transportation.

The 2009 map will be available at MDOT's Transportation Service Centers and region offices, as well as at Travel Michigan's Welcome Centers. The map is also available for viewing at state rest areas.

As in past years, providing maps specific to these two areas of the state, the 2009 edition of "Paving the Way" also details construction on state roads in Detroit and Grand Rapids.

Celebrity priest raised questions about celibacy before scandal

MIAMI -

That question, and the issue of clergy celibacy, was among many posed in the wake of the scandal triggered by a Mexican magazine's publication of 25 photos of Father Alberto, as he is called, in the throes of rapture more carnal than spiritual.

"For the human point of view, I can understand temptation," said Florida International University sociology professor Uva de Aragon, a Cuban-American Catholic who has known Cutié for years.

"Frankly, this was not very smart, flouting what you are doing. Did he want to get caught?"

His parish was in the heart of South Beach, he socialized with celebrities, and his books and television appearances made him one of the nation's most prominent Catholics, especially among Latinos.

Even his detractors -- if he had any -- would agree he is blessed with matinee-idol looks.

So did any of those factors contribute to the reckless behavior with a woman on a beach that brought down the Rev. Alberto Cutié this week?

Caught he was. Shortly after the photos' publication in TVnotas, the Archdiocese of Miami announced Tuesday that Cutié, 40, would be suspended from the pulpit at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, and that he would no longer host a show on Pax Catholic Communications.

"Father Cutié made a promise of celibacy and all priests are expected to fulfill that promise with the help of God," read a statement from Archbishop John C. Favalora. "Father Cutié's actions cannot be condoned, despite the good works he has done as a priest."

Father Cutié wrote an e-mail apology, asking forgiveness from "those who may be hurt or saddened by my actions. ... The commitment that I made to serve God will remain intact."

The apparently brazen nature of Cutié's actions, and his precipitous fall from grace, prompted discussions on the role of celibacy in the Catholic church, a subject Cutié himself had raised.

"I don't think it's so much an issue of celibacy as one man's bad decisions," said Waren, whose school is run by the Archdiocese of Miami. "People make vows. People make mistakes. People get hurt."

Born in Puerto Rico to Cuban parents, Cutié grew up in Miami's Kendall area and graduated from Southwest High School in 1987. He entered the priesthood at 18.

Cutié gained national prominence in 1999 when he was chosen from among 500 candidates to head an inspirational show on Spanish-language Telemundo network. He has written a best-selling book and a syndicated advice column, and been dubbed "Father Oprah" by Newsweek.

Charismatic and bilingual, Father Alberto is on a first-name basis with celebrities such asGloria Estefan, Andy Garcia, Willy Chirino and Shakira, and he often presides over high-profile ceremonies in Miami's Cuban community. Last year, for example, he conducted funerals for media mogul Pablo Raul Alarcon Sr. and music legend Israel "Cachao" Lopez.

" I'm the priest for the lost sheep. Which is why I do the media thing and the press thing and the book thing. I'm not the priest for the regular Catholic crowd," he told Hispanic magazine in 2007. "I made that decision a long time ago."

Hypercane

For comparison, the largest and most intense storm on record was 1979's Typhoon Tip, with a wind speed of over 300 kilometres per hour (190 mph) and central pressure of 870 hectopascals (26 inHg). Hypercanes would have wind speeds of over 800 kilometres per hour (500 mph) and would also have a central pressure of less than 700 hectopascals (21 inHg), giving them an enormous lifespan.

The waters could remain hot enough for weeks, allowing more hypercanes to be formed. A hypercane's clouds would reach 30 kilometres (19 mi) into the stratosphere. Such an intense storm would also damage the earth's ozone. Water molecules in the stratosphere would react with ozone to accelerate decay into O2 and reduce absorption of ultraviolet light. The extreme conditions needed to create a hypercane could conceivably produce a system up to the size of North America (compare image of Typhoon Tip's size at right), creating storm surges of 18 metres (59 ft) and an eye nearly 300 kilometres (190 mi) across.

This would be more comparable to a tornado, which has been recorded at up to about 2.5 miles. Other scientists have theorized that the system, compared to a normal hurricane, would be considerably smaller, about 10 miles in diameter.

Nike dunk sb High Top in Gray and White

Tuesday, May 5, 2009

The Nike dunk sb High Top in all white, one of the coolest sneakers ever invented was . This pure and shining shoe has etched its way into sneaker history.

The velcro strap at the top is one of my favorite features of this sneaker. It screams 90’s and at the same time serves as a cool feature to tuck your jeans in to. Brilliant.

The Nike dunk sb High Top in all white is one of the best looking sneakers for casual wear. They look so good with a pair of jeans and a t-shirt and as such they have become very popular with the high school and university crowd.

We have a few of these for sale in our online sneaker store.

Nike Air Assault High Top: Black and purple

Come to Nike high tops, this particular shoe is one of my favourites.

This is basically a basketball shoe. It has good support and excellent balance. They are slightly heavier than other high tops but other than that are some of the most comfortable sneakers you will ever wear.

Again, Nike is a versatile shoe that can be dressed up or dressed down. It goes well with a pair of jeans and the tongue left out over the top. However, you don’t have to play basketball to enjoy this shoe.

The Cannonball Run

I love this movie and have been watching it ever since I was little through the Cannonball Run has been vilified by many critics over the years. This movie is what happens when a bunch of movie stars who just happen to be close friends in real life decide to make a movie just for fun. The plot is simple enough, race from one end of the country to the other for a million dollars and avoid the law on the way.

The cast is jammed with big names and just about everyone in the movie that has a speaking part is a star of some stature. This movie is simply great fun and has a lot in common with the rest of director Hal Needham's films,i.e. Smokey and the Bandit.

Jackie Chan makes his first appearance in a American movie with this film and both Hal Needham and writer Brock Yates have cameos. Don't expect a lot in the way of plot or acting or effects or anything like that and just enjoy the ride. The outtakes at the end of this and Cannonball Run II are hilarious and it makes it more fun for me anyway to know that this movie was just like a big meeting of old friends. Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. are great as Blake and Fenderbaum respectively.

Burt Reynolds and Dom Deluise anchor this film (they're the main characters)and the give and take between these two make them one of the best comedy teams I have ever seen. A truly fun movie to watch. Buy this flick, drag it out every once in a while, and have fun watching it with family or friends.

U.S. tourists find little fun in Mexico

Cesly Burris was looking forward to a beach getaway when she boarded her Acapulco-bound plane last weekend, oblivious to what awaited her in Mexico: disaster and disease.

Two days later, the 26-year-old from Temecula, Calif., was steadying herself through a 5.6 earthquake in the basement-level spa of her hotel in this coastal resort city on what’s known as Mexico’s Pacific Riviera.

But she was there for a vacation, after all. So after a minute of tremors, Burris and her husband treated themselves to a couples massage — by women wearing masks. Mexico is the epicenter of the swine flu outbreak. Although the nation’s top medical officer on Friday said new cases and fatalities were leveling off, authorities have confirmed 343 cases and 15 deaths from the virus.

Some American tourists have adopted a worry-free attitude, relying on their resort to shelter them from the influenza virus.

“They’re probably hyping it up,” said Sonya Welch, who was vacationing from Indiana. Welch and her friend holed themselves up in their hotel after they came back empty-handed from a trip to Wal-Mart. The superstore had run out of masks and hand sanitizers.

Burris said she was slightly concerned about her body’s lapse to fever, aches and vomiting a few days after her arrival.

“If I die, I die,” she said nonchalantly. “If not, I will get right back into my room until my quarantine is over.
“One way or another, I’m getting out of here.”

Many Mexico City residents, meanwhile, have shed their blue surgical masks for blue skies, with thousands heading for Acapulco and other coastal destinations for their Cinco de Mayo holiday weekend. The swine flu has been more prevalent inland, and

Elena Zarate said the influx of domestic tourists into Acapulco for the holiday weekend has not wavered.

“A lot of people are asking why the clubs are closed because no people are sick here,” said Zarate, a receptionist at the Grand Mayan hotel.

Owner Ruben Manzano was the only one wearing a mask Wednesday night in his Astilleros restaurant, which was empty of customers.

Students forego shoes for a week to fight poverty

Monday, May 4, 2009

To raise money and shoes for local shelters and children in developing countriesSeveral Bishop Grandin High School students are going barefoot this week.

About 20 students will be without shoes round the clock for a week starting Monday as part of the fundraising effort, which was organized by Grade 10 students Kelsey Ross and Lexi Streu.

Ross admitted the first day of commuting to school barefoot wasn't easy.

"Taking the C-Train was kind of painful and a little bit gross, but it's worth it in the end to raise awareness, because I got asked by a lot of people why I wasn't wearing shoes."

The students are collecting new and used shoes for Calgary's local shelters, as well as cash donations for Free the Children, an international children's charity founded by Canadian Craig Kielburger in 1995.

Ross and Streu got the idea from Bilaal Rajan, a young activist from Toronto they met while building a school in Ecuador last summer with Free the Children. Rajan spent seven days without shoes last month to raise awareness about child poverty.

Ross said her mother is proud of her efforts but asked that she carry a First-Aid kit with her during this barefoot week.

"It's just really important that people understand that and appreciate what they go through.A lot of people in our society don't appreciate what we have and … what people go through — like not having shoes," Ross said.

Chelsea v Barcelona

He should be fit to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday, Barcelona's Thierry Henry was forced to sit out a training session on Monday.

Henry, 31, picked up a knee injury after scoring twice during Barca's 6-2 rout at Real Madrid on Saturday and was substituted towards the end.

Barca will be without captain Carles Puyol, who is banned, and defender Rafa Marquez, who is out for the season.

Brook Park homeowners are warned about shady contractors Edit

tag: brooke elliott

A shady contractor can darken the brightest summer project, but the city has some suggestions for residents to help avoid any pitfalls, From new garage or deck could be a blessing -- or a curse. Both Mayor Mark Elliott and Building Commissioner Marty Surella say the top three things residents need to know are:

•Avoid drawing a permit on behalf of a contractor.

•Never fully pay any job up front.

•And call the building department to make sure a contractor is registered.

Drawing a permit for a contractor makes the homeowner liable for the work.

"Plus nine times out of 10, he doesn't come in and get registered, so we don't know who he is or if he has insurance. You basically shoot yourself in the foot," Surella said.

In the months of June, July and August permits are free for both contractors and residents.

"Contractors are telling residents, 'I can get you a free permit.' Sure they can, because they are free during those months," Surella said.

Though they are free they must be acquired and applications and drawings still have to be submitted.

Paying for a job up front makes a resident susceptible to fly-by-night contractors that could take the money and run.

"There might be a start up fee but don't pay 100 percent until 100 percent of the job is complete," Elliott said.

The mayor said residents need to do their homework and not just pick anyone to do their home improvements. Residents should always remember that the contractor they select needs to be registered with the proper license and insurance to do the job in the city.

"So many times people will pick a name out of the phonebook or an advertisement, and they really have no knowledge or history of what that contractor has done," Elliott said.

Surella said he has a list on file of contractors the city is familiar with and whom residents can trust.

"If they've done work in city, we know who they are. We don't recommend one contractor, but we'll give you a list and you can go shopping," he said.

Because of the economy, more and more people are doing contracting on the side and may not be expert at the craft.

"The goal is for residents to get a quality job. You have a better chance of assuring this if the contractor is licensed and bonded and has a good track record," Elliott said.

Tim Devine, a local contractor, spoke on this topic at a council meeting earlier this month. He was upset that some contractors are doing work in the area without being licensed, insured and bonded with the city.

"I feel these guys are trespassing against me. I'm paying my fees and doing it legally and these guys aren't," he told Council.

He wanted the city to consider harsher penalties such as what one Florida city does -- a $10,000 fine and up to a year in jail.

The mayor and Surella met to discuss Devine's points.

"His issue is that contractors are out there doing work on the weekends that we're not catching them," Surella said. "We catch people weekly, but there's a dilemma. If a contractor comes out and pulls a roof off a house and we catch them, we make them come in and register and get a permit. I can't kick them off the job because the house has no roof on it."

If it were to rain, the resident and the city could be liable.

Such contractors are penalized with a double fee for not registering. Repeat offenders can be cited to court.

Surella said, "we're not bashful, extreme penalties are not in the policy of the city."

Santa Clara High locked down as police search for escaped suspect Edit

tag: santa clara high school

A suspect escaped released by a police officer at nearby Benton Street and Kiely Boulevard, Santa Clara High School is locked down this afternoon.

Santa Clara police spokesman Lt. Phil Cooke said officers are searching for the suspect north of the campus. He said the school was locked down "just as an abundance of caution."

"We did not want 1,000 students running around while we search for the guy," Cooke said.

The parent of a Santa Clara student said her daughter texted her at 2:10 p.m. saying the school had been locked down. At 2:22 p.m., the daughter said someone had escaped police somewhere near the school.

Cooke did not release any other details.

The situation is serious now.

CCISD Closes All Schools Until May 13

tag: ccisd

Consider for such an increase of suspected cases over the weekend, CCISD officials decision to shut down all district schools wasn't easy, district officials said they had to take action.

CCISD officials said there are 17 suspected swine flu cases at Grant Middle School are the highest in the district.

"I'm announcing today that all classes and activities in the Corpus Christi ISD campuses will be suspended beginning tomorrow, Tuesday May 5th to at least Wednesday, May 13th," CCISD Superintendent Scott Eliff said.

CCISD's decision to close all schools in the district came after consulting local health officials, and after the amount of suspected cases jumped from 31 to 143 over the weekend.

"Additionally, the health department has informed us this morning that the probable case that led to the closing of Miller High School earlier this week has now been confirmed as H1N1," Eliff said.

All extracurricular activities related to the school are also canceled until Wednesday, May 13. Also, CCISD's Administrative Building will also be closed at that time.

The district said the suspension will affect roughly 38,000 students who attend schools in CCISD.

"Parents and caregivers should be using this time to make arrangements for school to not be in session through May the 13th," Eliff said.

The district said it plans to disinfect every school by cleaning all doorknobs, desks and areas students come into close contact with every day. Until school starts back, officials are urging kids to play it safe.

"These days off are not the time for students to congregate at the mall. The whole purpose of suspending school and school activities is to stop the potential spread of this disease," Eliff stated.

One exception to the shutdown is Collegiate High School, which is on the Del Mar College Campus. They'll continue classes as usual unless instructed otherwise. In addition, dozens of end of the year banquets are having to be reorganized. Superintendent Eliff said at least one prom is in the process of being rescheduled but he didn't say which one.

Brutal defeat may bring an end to Ricky Hatton’s career

Ricky Hatton’s late-night trip to the Valley Medical Centre, accompanied by Jennifer, his fiancée, Paul Speak, his agent, and Oscar De La Hoya, his promoter, was just a precaution, but it was a fitting reminder, should the British boxer need one, of the dangers associated with his sport. Over the coming weeks, Hatton, 30, will have time to consider what the future holds for him and many will urge him to retire. It is a sport for the young and hungry, not rich, ageing boxers chasing an unreachable dream.

The second-round finish at the fists of Manny Pacquiao at the MGM Grand Garden Arena had been both brilliant and frightening. For what seemed an age, Hatton did not move. He was turned into the recovery position, his face groggy when he began to come round. Within two minutes, he was sitting on a stool and soon after he was back on his feet. “It was a hard loss, but I’m OK,” Hatton, who spent nearly two hours in hospital and had a CT scan, said. “I really didn’t see the punch coming, but it was a great shot. I know I’ll be OK.”

It is unlikely that Hatton will want the last moment of his career to have been spent lying unconscious on the canvas, but he certainly does not need to keep boxing for financial reasons. Hatton has tens of millions in the bank and a burgeoning promotional business. The only reason not to retire would be that he has attainable goals.

Among those celebrating Pacquiao’s triumph was the man who has turned the Filipino into the world’s best boxer and exposed flaws in Hatton’s style. “We studied tapes — it’s right in front of you, all you do is watch,” said Freddie Roach, Pacquiao’s trainer, whose prediction of a win for his man inside three rounds had been widely scoffed at. “Every time Hatton throws, he pulls back. A guy like Pacquiao can deliver a short hook inside.

“He never saw it coming. He was caught by the same punch over and over again because he couldn’t make the adjustment — he’s been doing it for 50 fights and nobody has taught him not to do it. It has taken Manny eight years with me to get to this point. What can Floyd [Mayweather Sr, Hatton's trainer] do in two fights?”

A bout with Amir Khan, who challenges Andreas Kotelnik for the WBA light-welterweight title on June 27, had been mooted as a possibility in the event of defeat for Hatton, but Roach, who trains Khan, said that he would not want it. Roach was an exciting boxer in the 1980s, but he was too easy to hit and when he was told to retire, he carried on. The Parkinson’s disease he struggles with today is a legacy of that decision.

While Roach has improved Khan, he is not sure he could improve Hatton. “At this point, he’s probably stuck in his ways,” Roach said. “I hope he retires because it’s a hard game and he has achieved greatness. Why go on?

“I know Amir has the right style to beat Ricky Hatton, but I don’t want to see that fight happen. I like Ricky. It would be good for my kid, but I don’t want to see anyone get hurt. Knockouts like that are not good for people, so he should consider retirement. It’s easy for me to say, but I’ve been there and I didn’t quit. Maybe I should have.”

It was the same ring where, 17 months earlier, Hatton had been knocked out by Floyd Mayweather Jr and Hatton harboured ambitions of a rematch. As time had gone on, the sense of injustice about that defeat had grown. He blamed Joe Cortez, the referee, for not allowing him to work up close, he blamed himself for losing his cool and there was plenty of blame for Billy Graham, his former trainer.

This time, there could be no excuses — the defeat was absolute. With Mayweather having announced that he is coming out of retirement, there was another big bout down the line, but not for Hatton. Pacquiao-Mayweather is the contest on everyone’s lips. Hatton’s dream of becoming the world’s best pound-for-pound fighter is over.

There had been rumours of a bust-up in the Hatton camp and Mayweather Sr seemed quick to wash his hands of his man’s performance. “He got beat because he didn’t do what I told him to do, he didn’t keep his hands up,” he said. “I told him not to fight aggressively from the start, I can’t fight the fight for him. He made a good mark in the game, but you can’t keep taking the punches. If he asked me, I’d tell him to retire.”

But the decision is best left for a time in the future, when he can get some perspective. “Our only focus is Ricky’s health. We’re in a very fortunate position in terms of the money he’s accumulated and the stuff he’s got going on outside the ring. Whatever decision he makes, he’s never going to have a situation where he has to fight to pay his mortgage.” Gareth Williams, the chief executive of Hatton Promotions, said.

Nadal regains Rome Masters title

Nadal looks an overwhelming favourite to go unbeaten through the clay season at the Madrid Masters and French Open. The Spaniard won 7-6 (7-2) 6-2 to claim a record fourth Rome title and extend his unbeaten run on clay to 30 matches.

The result means that Djokovic will lose his world number three ranking to Britain's Andy Murray on 11 May.

"I had my chances," said Djokovic of Sunday's defeat by Nadal.

"He overcomes the pressure better than me, that's why he's the best in the world, but overall I'm pretty happy with the week.

"Maybe I've got to get to the net faster and take more chances. I've got to improve physically as well."

606: DEBATE
Nadal is the King, Federer 'the pretender', and Djokovic 'the would-be King'

sobasi
Nadal reclaims the title he won in 2005, 2006 and 2007, before suffering a shock early loss to Juan Carlos Ferrero 12 months ago - his last defeat on clay.

"For sure it's one of the biggest wins of my career," said Nadal, who surpasses three-time winners Thomas Muster of Austria, Australian Martin Mulligan and Czech Jaroslav Drobny. "It's always incredible to win in Rome.

"The first point of the tie-break was for him and I had two chances to serve for the first set and lost both times, but I played the tie-break well and that was the most important thing."

Djokovic had looked to be the closest challenger to Nadal in the early stages of this year's clay-court season, putting up stern resistance before losing the Monte Carlo final two weeks ago.

But the Spaniard still went into Sunday's match in Rome with a 12-4 lead in career meetings, including a 7-0 record on clay, and he took charge from the outset with an immediate break of serve.

There were signs of tension as Nadal twice failed to serve out in a dramatic finale to the opening set that saw wildly fluctuating fortunes, with Nadal first missing a set point before Djokovic smashed his racquet to destruction when broken for the second time.

It came down to a tie-break, and Nadal took it after Djokovic missed with a couple of key backhands.

The second set was a more straightforward affair, with Nadal breaking Djokovic's resistance after both men held serve early on, the Serb double-faulting on break point in game six.

Victory was sealed when Nadal made a spectacular running forehand pass down the line after two hours and three minutes, confirming his dominance on his favourite surface.

And it takes Nadal to 36 ATP tournament wins and 15 Masters Series titles, one more than Roger Federer and two behind Andre Agassi's record of 17.

"I would love to have more than 17," said Nadal. "Right now I have 15, I'm very happy for that, but I'm going to try my best in the next tournaments."

Nadal and Djokovic head to Madrid for the next Masters 1000 event, which gets under way on 10 May.

Liverpool maintain title pursuit

Liverpool remain three points behind Man Utd, having played a game more, after a 3-0 win over relegation-threatened Newcastle.

UH Gets the Brush-Off from Nike

With a 31-3 record and slam-dunking skills like no other, the "dunking fraternity" Phi Slama Jama put University of Houston men's basketball on the map in 1983. Nike will soon be releasing a shoe commemorating the team: A limited-edition release, the Big Nike Hi LE will be sold only at House of Hoops Foot Locker locations in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago.

That's great — people in those cities will be thrilled, but what about those in Houston that, you know, actually attend or have attended UH?

"That's got to be an unbelievable oversight," Thomas Bonk, the former Houston Post writer and the man who coined the phrase "Phi Slama Jama," tells Hair Balls. "Houston should be the place they're launched, and they should get all the players involved, and they should make a big deal about it."

With rumors floating about a Houston location, maybe HOH will make a big deal of it, but after transferred call after transferred phone call, the only person to mention to Hair Balls an opening in Houston has been a random employee at the New York House of Hoops location.

Through "Nike Talk," an online forum for the sneaker-loving community, word on the street is that a Houston location was set to open in March of this year at Willowbrook Mall. But user Kadoma posted, "Due to the current state of the economy plans have been put on hold indefinitely."

After more than two weeks, Nike still has yet to comment on anything regarding the shoe or its release. The shoes are commonly known on many Web sites as the "Nike Big Nike Hi LE — Phi Slamma Jamma" — with two "m's" — even though the team's nickname is only spelled with one "m."

"It's with one 'm,' and when this whole thing happened in 1983, I got a call from Sports Illustrated saying that I misspelled it, and I said, 'How could I misspell it? I made it up,'" says Bonk, now a writer for Golf Digest.

As for whether Nike is dodging a copyright bullet by adding a letter or two, Jeff Conrad, sports information director for the men's basketball team at the University of Houston, said, "That's a common mistake...we have Cougar fans who spell it with two 'm's.'"

Even if they were trying to avoid a lawsuit, it would be UH's bone to pick.

"What I basically wound up doing was kind of giving the phrase to the University of Houston as a gift to the athletic department," Bonk said, "and I'm happy with that."

The Big Nike Hi LE will be decked out in Coach Guy V. Lewis's typical red, white and black plaid jacket, copied on the shoes' side panels. Red and white, the official university colors, accent the entire shoe. The shoes are emblazoned with symbols representative of the fraternity: a Greek letter phi, a slam dunker silhouette and a broken backboard.

Unfortunately, the University of Houston will not be selling them in the merchandising department of the athletic office, Conrad said. And with all the Cougar pride out there, the shoes are bound to turn a profit, but Bonk won't see a penny of it — and he doesn't mind.

Bonk said, "Oh, no, I'm happy for it...I had so much fun covering that team and they were such great players and those memories are forever so, no, I have no problem...anything that makes the University of Houston stand out is good in my book."

Martin to fire up Manny

Martin Nievera said yesterday he’s ready to sing the “Pambansang Awit” in a way that will fire up Manny Pacquiao before the Filipino icon takes on IBO lightwelterweight champion Ricky Hatton here tonight (tomorrow morning, Manila).

“I’ve been practicing for over a month,” said Nievera who flew in from Manila on a Philippine Airlines flight last Thursday. “I’ll give it my best as a Filipino. I prefer to sing with music but I’m still checking if the venue producers will allow a sound check and monitors for my ear piece which, by the way, has the logo of the Philippine flag. I could do a capella or sing with a minus-one.”

Nievera said he’ll start the song slowly, like a ballad, then increase the pace to a marching beat.

“It’ll be a different rendition,” he mentioned. “A few days ago, I launched my new CD ‘For Always’ at Robinson’s Place Manila and sang our National Anthem the way I’ll sing it for the fight. Midway the song, the crowd really got pumped up and started cheering and applauding. Someone filmed it and you can now see it on You Tube. My last note will be my knockout punch to Hatton.”

Nievera said he realizes his version may trigger various reactions.

“Some people don’t appreciate anything new,” he said. “Some people will insist the National Anthem is a sacred song. But this is for a fight and we’ve got to be up to par and work along the norms. This isn’t an inaugural ball. I won’t upstage the song and I won’t sing to showcase my vocal callisthenics. I just want to sing for Manny and the Filipino people and show how proud we Filipinos are to be Filipino.”

Nievera said he’s not aware who will sing the British “God Save The Queen” but the rumor is either Susan Boyle or Tom Jones will do it.

“Susan has an angelic voice and getting her would be the right move but I’m a big Tom Jones fan and it would also be nice to see two male singers in the ring,” said Nievera who plans to wear a Francis Magalona-designed shirt “Three Stars and a Sun” inside a jacket.

Nievera said since he’ll sing emotionally like Pacquiao would.

“Manny’s a balladeer who likes emotional songs,” said Nievera. “That’s what I noticed when we sang karaoke in Los Angeles two months ago. He picked to sing songs like ‘Be My Lady,’ ‘Kahit Isang Saglit’ and ‘Natutulog Ba Ang Diyos?’ But I’ll finish with a beat inspired by a march.”

As for the bout, Nievera said it won’t be an easy gig for Pacquiao.

“I think Manny will win but he can’t take Hatton lightly,” he went on.

Pacquiao will enter the MGM Grand Garden Arena to the tune of a new Lito Camo composition, “Lahing Pinoy.” It’s the sixth entrance song penned by Camo and sung by Pacman himself.

“We recorded it one night in Los Angeles over a month ago,” said Camo. “Manny did just one take – that’s how good he is although we did some curing later to add the music, thanks to our arranger Jun Tamayo.”

Notes: Starting at 12 noon today (Saturday, Manila time), 49 pairs of the new Pacquiao Nike Trainer I shoes will go on sale for P5,209 at the Manny Pacquiao pop up store, Magnet Café, Bonifacio High Street. The 49 pairs signify Pacquiao’s quest for his 49th career win against Hatton. Limited pairs will also be available at Nike Park, the Fort, tomorrow (Sunday).

The special edition model bears Pacquiao’s identity crest, a distinctive Filipino sockliner with a Philippine eagle graphic and the May 2, 2009, date of the Hatton bout on the tongue. It comes in a specially designed-for-Pacquiao shoe box. The shoe is in red, gold and white, equipped with Nike’s Diamond FLX and Max Air technologies and made from lightweight synthetics. According to Nike Philippines country marketing manager Mae Dichupa, it was developed to support multi-directional movements and provide impact protection, durability and cushioning while maintaining premium performance.

In addition, new Nike Team Pacquiao T-shirts – in black and grey – are now on sale in Nike stores nationwide. A limited number of 2009 Team Pacquiao Windrunners, Manny Pacquiao southpaw and Wild Card Gym graphic tees are also available exclusively at the Pacquiao pop up store.

Last Friday’s PAL flight No. 106 to Las Vegas via Vancouver had an all-star manifest that included Nievera, former Rizal Gov. To make sure the trip was smooth and comfortable were purser Divine Dimacali and the economy crew Theresa Enriquez, Nadine Nuqui, Joyce Basa, Donna Mindanao and Jojo Falguera.Ito Ynares and wife Mayor Nini, Supreme Court Justice Rene Corona, Secretary of Education Jesli Lapus, Richard Merk, Rep. Erico Fabian and Taytay Mayor George Gacula.

Natural and organic personal care products with no synthetic petrochemical or oleochemical ingredients of any kind - even in the fine print. We're a little unusual in that regard. In fact, some people call what we're doing a revolution. Since 60% of everything that touches your skin is absorbed into your body, your personal care products should be selected with as much care as the food you eat.

We at Terressentials make our products with only food quality ingredients and medicinal grade herbal extracts. Some companies load their so-called "natural" or "organic" products with synthetic chemicals, hoping that you won't ask too many questions and that their green-washing hype will distract you from the small type on the back of the bottle. We think that this deception is very uncool. We're not like that. We are a young company with a deep conscience and a strong vision. We believe that individuals can make a difference and that is why we take a stand to reveal the truth about the impact of body care products on your personal environment.

We also operate our natural products showroom and raise herbs at our organic farm in Middletown, MD, and teach our planet-mates how to enjoy their transition to a chemical-free life, putting back what they took from our mother, the earth, one little piece at a time.

The Kentucky Derby and Secretariat

tag: secretariat

Saturday in may when we hear that infamous call "and down the stretch they come" hopefully this year with my horse coming in first, seen thru a sea of ridiculess hats you know what I'm talking about. I love the "Triple Crown", I was lucky to see three triple crown winners-Affirm, Seattle Slew and the one and only, the truth and will always be the champion-Secretariat. I saw Secretariat run at Arlington Park, it was a overcast day and after he dispatch his competition a ray of sunshine beamed down on this horse and it was like something divine. What this horse did I don't think we will see again. Its the way he did it. Winning the Preakness by 31 lenghts, thats unheard of, I saw that race on tv and after that race I knew i had seen something out of this world. My favorites of all time Secretariat, Seattle Slew, Affirm and Spectacular Bid. Spectacular Bid I believe would have been a triple crown winner if it weren't for his foot injury he suffered going into the Preakness, and still finished strong.

"Hold Me Back" seems appropriate since I'm a Bulls fan, thats the name of the horse I think is gonna win. Who do you like? Don't forget the Bulls and Celtics. Go!
