Middletown woman vies for Miss USA crown

Middletown’s own Kate Banaszak will try to become the first Delawarean to win the Miss USA pageant, which is in its 58th year.
The 24-year-old veterinary technician at Concord Pike Veterinary Hospital is in Las Vegas for this weekend’s competition.
The pageant will be hosted by actress and model Nadine Velazquez and “Access Hollywood” host Billy Bush. Kevin Rudolf and The Veronicas will perform.
Banaszak, who has competed in state pageants for the past four years or so, and the other contestants will be judged in three categories: swimsuit, evening gown and interview.
A Delawarean has never cracked the top 15 of the Miss USA pageant.It airs at 7 p.m. Sunday on NBC live from Planet Hollywood.
